bath time

The picture is a little off, but isn't she a cutie? We've been in France and will head back to Florence tomorrow. Hopefully the snow in the Alps has cleared off the roads. I love it when there are new posts from you girls. Here's another picture that is better framed. Keep writing everyone. lots of love

Elena is an angel...gotta love those big eyes... your looking nice and skinny and like regular Wendy. I am feeling a little jealous... oh well only 3 months left. How did you travel to France? Do you guys have a car? Did Elena go with you? How does she do travelwise? I bet the overseas flights have been fun. Do you have lots of family help with her in Italy, or is it weird to trust them with her? Just wondering. We are bummed to not have any family here, babysitters are hard to find. My sister is in labor right now... for the last 20 hours we haven't heard anything!! I am going a little insane. She is my closest family (in Seattle) so I am waiting to start trekking up there soon....ah babies babies babies...

You can do it Valerie!!! The end is the worst- you think you'll never not have a huge belly again, but you will!! Plus, it's a little girl!!! Elena and I took Pietro's car on a road trip. It takes about 10 or 11 hours to get from Florence to Vichy, but the drive is gorgeous. Everything is so much closer in proximity than America that there's always varied scenery. Plus, the drive up the coast (through genova up to Torino and through the mountains) is beautiful. Elena is great and sleeps and blabbers through the long trips whether we're flying, driving, or on a train. Pietro's parents come for lucnch every saturday, and sometimes I go for a few days to their house in Certaldo (40 min from Florence). I haven't left her with anyone since I was in Rochester in December going to classes and teaching etc. She's a little bit of a Mamma's girl. I take her everywhere you can imagine. Pietro works so much, and I've been lucky to have mommy time since we moved here. But, the pressure is on from all angles to start playing in an orchestra or something. Another great thing about Europe is that children start in school (optionable of course) at 2 or 3. They can stay there from 9 to 5 depending on when the parents work etc. It's free and from what I've seen the kids love it (even if they only go for the mornings). It helps them all start out on equal footing when they go to kindergarden. I'm sure this will be very helpful in the near future. For now, I figure my time is better spent with Elena and preparing my last recitals for Eastman. Plus, I'm not legally allowed to work for a few months anyway. People don't realize (I think) how much work it is to be a "housewife". The days go by fast....anyway, how did your sister make out?

She's adorable Wendy. She looks like a very outgoing and cheerful girl from these pictures!

Do you ever call her Ellie?

We call her Ellie, Elle, Pookah, Elenina, Elenuncia and I can't think of any others. Her name is italian and pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable ELena. Even my mom messed up and would call her Elaina. We kind of named her after my sister Eleanor, only we changed the last syllable from nor to a. I thought this was an original name until we got to Italy and there's an Elena everywhere.
