Our Very Own Spot

Hmmm... well I feel I need a picture. I have nothing new though, so here's a oldie but goodie to compete with the cats in sinks. Lucy sleeping in a fish bowl, back in the old apartment before you guys even moved in!

(Valerie, you'll have to excuse us babyless ladies who must talk about their cats instead of their children.)

Today I had an exam on fitting RGPs (rigid gas permeable contact lenses) and did ok on it, but not great. I definitely understudied on that one. Spent my entire weekend studying for a different class that's a lot harder. Tomorrow is a notorious proficiency that almost no one passes, because it's ridiculously hard skill that we'll almost never actually do as doctors. 5 minutes to obtain a magnified scan of the retina, optic nerve head, and macula through an undilated pupil. Then it's onto the next exam which is Thursday over diagnostic case analysis stuff. Which is kind of fun, the real optometry that I'll be doing the rest of my life, but hard to study for which is why I'm here blogging instead.

Are you guys sure you want me here? My life is pretty much this: study, study, study, exam, whine, study, proficiency, study, study, tearful breakdown, study, whine, rant, cry, exam, exam. Yup. Sometimes I do laundry too. It's exciting stuff, optometry school.

I love that picture of little Lucy. How is she doing?
Your life is probably more exciting than mine. No, make that definitely more exciting than mine. How much longer are you in school? How did you decide to get into Optometry?

Lucy is good. Same as always. Almost 11 years old now, which is hard to believe. I'll have to post a photo of our other cat Isaac.

I'm in my second year of school. It's four years total, but the last year is doing rotations at different sites around the country, so I just have one more year of classroom stuff.

Decided on optometry because I didn't want to do a PhD, didn't want to go to med school, didn't want to go to dental school, didn't want to go to pharmacy school, wanted to make more money than I was as a research tech... and eyes seemed interesting to me. Better than teeth anyway. And there was an optometry school here in Oregon. It's mostly fun, but WAY harder than I thought it would be. I have never been so stressed out in my life. 2 1/2 years to graduation is really feeling a million years away right now.

my first thought of you is you helping me in French class, and your long beautiful hair. I miss you guys! My host sister is in optometry school for the same reasons. School can get so old. I'm pretty close to a DMA (doctorate of musical arts), but have put it on hold (missing one semester and two recitals) to live in Italy for a while. I don't miss sitting in a classroom. The only part I miss is my teacher Mr. Taylor. The weather in Rochester, NY is terrible. Pietro had the sudden heart change to come back to Italy, and I thought why not? I'm in no hurry to finish considering American degrees don't mean much here anyway- except for student loans to pay off of course.

Jo, how was your exam? Are you surviving? I found my glasses deep in my purse the other day at a musuem and was amazed at how clear everything became (drrrrr)

Oh, my exam on Thursday was actually not bad. I haven't checked what my score was, but I bet I did fine.

This next one coming on Tuesday is a bad one too though. They really just keep coming -- we have 2-3 written exams a week. :(
